Role Purpose

The role of Investment Portfolio Manager, under the guidance and supervision of more senior team members, manages and monitors the performance of a medium complexity investments portfolio for existing funds (non-OCR), to ensure higher returns’ generation within a defined risk profile in order to enhance the Bank’s income generating capacity. Moreover, the jobholder conducts analyses and provides necessary input and support for the proper reporting of the bank’s investments’ performance.

 

Key Accountabilities

Investment portfolio management

  •  Assesses assigned existing direct equity portfolio and prepares a detailed divestment plan to liquidate the legacy direct equity investments in private companies.
  • Under the supervision of more senior team members, monitors, and exits wherever possible, the legacy investment portfolio of real estate funds, private equity, and leasing investments, among others, in order to maximize the recovery of the invested amounts and to help re-deploy the funds in more attractive, mandate-compliant investment opportunities.
  • Conducts market research to facilitate the selection process for suitable external asset managers to manage the funds within the parameters outlined in the investment policy statement.
  • Monitors performance expectations set on financial returns based on relevant benchmarks as per Investment Policy statement and closely monitors the performance of the external asset managers.
  • Manages non-OCR funds of the bank and other third parties in line with the Guidelines approved by the Board of Executive Directors and within the overall risk parameters as stipulated therein.
  • Liaises regularly with external asset managers for all matters related to the externally managed funds.
  • Conducts in depth analysis and prepares standardized and customized reports on the performance of the managed funds.

 Operational excellence support

  • Ensures the effective implementation and adherence to respective policies, procedures and controls so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments, regulations and leading practices in the field and proposes any necessary actions.
  • Provides necessary input for the preparation of the function’s budget and for the monitoring of actual expenditure against the approved budget. 
Job Requirements

 

Academic qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics / Finance / Business Administration or other related discipline.
  • MSc Finance, MBA, or CFA is an advantage.

Languages

 

  • English (mandatory)
  • Arabic (preferred)
  • French (preferred)

Minimum number of years and nature of experience

  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience in the Investment function, ideally within a Multilateral Development Bank, with at least 3 years’ experience in managing external funds
